Rep. Ben Carpenter
Alaska House of Representatives, District 8

HB 217 “An Act relating to the transfer of duties from the Department of Administration to the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities…”

HB 217 was developed in close coordination with the Departments of Administration (DOA) and Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF).  The bill modifies the statutes to reflect the fiscal policy change of responsibility for State buildings from the Department of Administration to the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities that occurred in the 31st Legislature operating budget.

The FY21 budget moved the appropriation for Department of Administration duties related to leases, lease-purchase agreements, and state buildings to the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities to gain efficiencies and better align responsibilities with agency missions. This bill is companion action that must occur to officially transfer statutory responsibility between DOA and DOT&PF.
